Lineal is seeking a Penetration Tester who is able to push the limits and enjoy solving technologically challenging problems, often working alone against external networks.

Responsibilities

  • Understand complex computer systems and technical cyber security terms
  • Perform remote testing of a client’s network or onsite testing of their infrastructure to expose weaknesses in security
  • Work with clients to determine their requirements from the test, for example the number and type of systems they would like testing
  • Plan and create penetration methods, scripts and tests
  • Advise on methods to fix or lower security risks to systems
  • Consider the impact your ‘attack’ will have on the business and its users
  • Create reports and recommendations from your findings
  • Present your findings, risks and conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understand how the flaws that you identify could affect a business, or business function if they’re not fixed

Experience of working with the following

  • Programming languages (such as SQL, C ++, JavaScript, Ruby, and Python)
  • Security assessment tools Open Source and Commercial Solutions (such as Aircrack-ng, Burp Suite, SQLmap, Network Scanning and Enumeration tools)
  • Security frameworks (such as NIST, SOX, HIPPA)
  • Operating systems (such as Linux, Unix, Windows)

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and knowledge; certification preferred
  • Preferred Certification: OSCE, OSCP, LPT or CEPT (can support attainment for the right candidate)

Skills within the following areas

  • Advanced computer skills – extensive computer skills and an understanding of networking are the most important fundamental skills penetration testers possess. They are experienced with cryptography, reverse engineering, web applications, databases, and wireless technologies
  • Computer and information security – penetration testers use their exceptional computer skills to attempt to hack into systems. They keep up to date on security software packages and are always learning new security protocols and computer technologies that could be exploited
  • Scripting and programming – a variety of computer programming and scripting skills are important for penetration testers because some employers require knowledge of a specific programming language or operating system
  • Report writing – penetration testers utilize strong written and oral communication skills to write reports on their assessments to communicate potential weaknesses to the IT team and management
  • Problem-solving skills – to protect networks and data from potential serious risks, penetration testers use problem-solving skills to determine the most effective way to correct issues that arise
  • Data analytics – penetration testers can review data and analyse the processes needed to correct security issues
